Sappers neutralize WWII ordnance found in Ruda Śląska sewer
Sappers and pyrotechnicians successfully neutralized several pieces of World War II-era military ordnance discovered in a sewer manhole in the Halemba district of Ruda Śląska.
The discovery occurred on Friday, September 25, 2026, when a water utility worker performing routine technical inspections noticed suspicious metal objects within a manhole. The items identified included an anti-tank projectile cap, a mortar grenade fin, and a rifle cartridge from the Second World War era.
Emergency services, including a police patrol and a specialist mining-pyrotechnic reconnaissance group, responded to the scene. The dangerous elements were safely seized and transported to a secure location for neutralization. Authorities have reminded the public to exercise extreme caution when encountering such items and to avoid touching or moving them, advising immediate notification of the police via the 112 emergency number.
