World War II ordnance discoveries in Poland

Overview

In late September and early October 2026, separate discoveries of World War II-era military ordnance were reported in Poland.

In Ruda Śląska, a utility worker performing routine inspections in a sewer manhole in the Halemba district identified suspicious metal objects, including an anti-tank projectile cap, a mortar grenade fin, and a rifle cartridge. Specialist mining-pyrotechnic reconnaissance groups responded to the scene to seize and neutralize the items.

Following this, workers conducting a building renovation in central Sopot discovered 17 pieces of German 20 mm anti-aircraft ammunition hidden in a basement niche. Polish Army sappers secured the area and transported the projectiles to a training ground for neutralization.
