Saquarema Environmental Guard rescues caiman from storm drain
Environmental Guard agents in Saquarema rescued a female yellow-spotted caiman in the Jaconé neighborhood. The reptile, measuring approximately 2.30 meters and weighing 46 kg, was discovered inside a storm drain.
Authorities had been monitoring the animal for several days following reports from local residents. To ensure the safety of the public, the agents and the animal, a rescue strategy was implemented involving the isolation of the street and the use of PVC pipes to guide the caiman safely to a retrieval point.
After the operation, which lasted about four hours, the caiman was evaluated and found to be in good health before being returned to its natural habitat. Local authorities advise citizens to avoid contact with wildlife and to report sightings in inappropriate locations immediately.
