Saracens enters new era under Brendan Venter
Saracens is entering a new era for the 2026-27 Gallagher Premiership season following the departure of director of rugby Mark McCall, who held the position for 17 years. Dr. Brendan Venter has returned to the role for his second spell at the club, aiming to maintain an intense and physical style of play.
The club has bolstered its squad with significant signings, including Tomos Williams and Alfie Barbeary, the latter arriving from Bath to fill the void left by Tom Willis. Despite these additions, the club faces an early setback; Saracens was fined £5,000 after Venter failed to attend the Gallagher PREM season launch at Twickenham and missed subsequent media duties.
Head coach Joe Shaw has managed media responsibilities ahead of the season opener against Leicester Tigers. Venter’s return marks a significant leadership shift for the club as they attempt to return to the play-offs for the first time since 2024.
