Sarah Sjöström wins 18th European title in 50m butterfly

Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjöström won the gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. This victory marks her 18th European title, equaling the record held by German swimming icon Franziska van Almsick.

Sjöström, 32, achieved this milestone in her first major championship following the birth of her son last year. She secured the win with a time of 25.05 seconds, narrowly defeating Belgium’s Roos Vanotterdijk (25.12). Fellow Swede Sara Junevik took the bronze medal with a time of 25.51.

In addition to Sjöström’s historic performance, Italian swimmer Sara Curtis also made headlines by setting a new world record in the 50-meter backstroke during the championships.
