Sarajevo Canton Employment Service allocates 108 million KM for job programs

Representatives from the Association of Employers of Sarajevo Canton and the Association of Employers of FBiH met with Amina Džonlagić, Director of the Sarajevo Canton Employment Service, to discuss improving cooperation and addressing labor market needs.

Over the last three years, the number of unemployed individuals in Sarajevo Canton has decreased by approximately 5,000. In the past five years, the Employment Service has allocated 108 million KM to employment programs, with 70 percent directed toward the real sector and 30 percent toward the public sector. An additional 20 million KM is planned through a budget rebalance by the end of the year.

Currently, there are 18,000 active job seekers in the canton, with more than 50 percent being over the age of 50. This demographic shift is attributed to youth emigration and declining birth rates. Employers emphasized the need for better information exchange and for programs to align with the start of the business year, particularly to support the tourism, construction, and agricultural sectors.
