Sarajevo Canton establishes auxiliary police and acquires new helicopter

The Sarajevo Canton Government has adopted two regulations to establish an auxiliary police force. This move aims to strengthen police capacity for tasks including traffic management, crime prevention, and maintaining public order. Auxiliary officers will also be deployed during natural disasters or states of emergency to protect lives and property, though they will not be tasked with securing high-risk gatherings.

To qualify, candidates must be citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, aged between 18 and 60, possess at least a secondary vocational education, and cannot be members of a political party.

In a separate development regarding police infrastructure, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton has received a new Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopter from Prague. Valued at 30 million KM, the aircraft is equipped with a rescue winch and is designed for versatile missions including medical transport, firefighting, and traffic surveillance. The helicopter will serve the newly formed Helicopter Unit, which includes pilots and mechanics trained internationally.
