Sarajevo Canton law enforcement capacity expansion

Overview

The Sarajevo Canton has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen its law enforcement and public safety capabilities. The Canton Government adopted regulations to establish an auxiliary police force intended for traffic management, crime prevention, and emergency response, though these officers will not be assigned to secure high-risk gatherings.

In addition to legislative changes, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has expanded its physical and human resources. The ministry acquired a Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopter from Prague, valued at 30 million KM, to support the newly formed Helicopter Unit in missions such as medical transport and firefighting. Furthermore, the police directorate has seen significant personnel reinforcement, recently welcoming 56 new officers who completed training at the FMoI Police Academy.
