Sarajevo International Airport shows growth potential through airline incentives
Aviation expert Zahid Krkić has identified airline incentive programs as a primary driver for growth at Sarajevo International Airport. He suggests that continuing these subsidies is essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina to retain current carriers, attract new airlines, and maintain increasing passenger traffic.
Since 2019, the airport has seen a 29 percent increase in passengers and a 40 percent rise in air connectivity. Krkić noted that the removal of a 10 KM departure fee in 2023 improved competitiveness, facilitating the arrival of carriers such as Ryanair. He estimates the airport has the potential to reach between 3.5 and 4 million passengers annually, provided there is long-term strategy and infrastructure investment.
