Sarajevo mayor pulls 'Kvadrant C' development plan from agenda

On a recent City Council meeting, Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdić removed the proposal to adopt the regulatory plan known as “Kvadrant C – Marijin Dvor” from the agenda without providing a public explanation.

The plan covered a mixed‑use corridor between Zmaja od Bosne Street and Wilson Park, from Pofalić to Marijin Dvor, and envisaged multi‑million‑euro investments such as a 12‑storey World Trade Center on the current Raiffeisen Bank parking lot, a new 12‑storey wing for the Importanne complex, demolition of police facilities, a pedestrian bridge, and cultural and diplomatic buildings including the Ars Aevi museum and the Saudi Arabian embassy.

Council member Vedad Deljković of the DF party announced the pull, citing concerns over park space, green areas and building heights. The University of Sarajevo and donors, including Dutch physicist Edmond Offermann, also voiced objections, saying the plan would harm university facilities.

The council will consider other related proposals, but the “Kvadrant C” plan will not be debated at this session.
