Sarajevo Marijin Dvor redevelopment

In late July 2026 the Sarajevo City Council scheduled a review of the regulatory plan for the Kvadrant C – Marijin Dvor area, outlining a large‑scale urban transformation that would include a World Trade Center, new office towers, a diplomatic complex, a public square, a pedestrian link, and the Ars Aevi museum. The proposal also called for demolition of 22 existing structures, including the cantonal Ministry of Interior building, and incorporated traffic‑flow adjustments welcomed by the University of Sarajevo.

Only a few days later, Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdić removed the Kvadrant C plan from the council agenda without explanation. Council member Vedad Deljković cited concerns over loss of park and green space and building heights, while the university and donors warned the scheme could damage campus facilities. The mayor’s decision halted the immediate debate, and the council signaled it would consider alternative proposals while the Kvadrant C plan was set aside for the session.
