Sarajevo proposes administrative reform for six municipalities

The Ministry of Justice and Administration of Sarajevo Canton has introduced draft laws on local self-government and amendments to the Sarajevo Canton Constitution. Supported by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the proposal aims to reorganize the relationship between the Canton, the City of Sarajevo, and its municipalities to improve public services and institutional accountability.

The proposed model envisions Sarajevo as an urban entity composed of six municipalities: Stari Grad, Centar, Novo Sarajevo, Novi Grad, Ilidža, and Vogošća. Minister Darja Softić Kadenić emphasized that the reform seeks to align government organization with the reality of how citizens live and use shared public spaces, addressing critical issues such as public transport, water supply, waste removal, heating, and spatial planning.
