Sarajevo to host international Month of Architecture

Sarajevo will host the international architectural event ‘d. i. a. spona: Sarajevo School of Architecture in the World’ from October 8 to November 25, 2026. Organized by the DIASPONA Foundation in partnership with the University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Architecture, the initiative aims to reconnect the city with the global architectural community by showcasing the work of 87 former students who have built careers worldwide.

The event will launch with the ‘DIASPONA – Coming Home’ exhibition held at the Sarajevo Railway Station, a national monument symbolizing post-war modernization. The project seeks to facilitate the exchange of professional and academic experiences between international architects and the local community.

In discussions regarding the project, urbanist Duško Bogunović has addressed themes of peri-urbanism and the unfinished urbanization of Sarajevo. He notes that unorganized or flexible urban systems may offer different resilience capabilities compared to complex urban centers in the face of natural changes.
