Saratoga Race Course hosts 157th Travers Stakes

The 157th edition of the Travers Stakes, a $1.25 million Grade 1 race at Saratoga Race Course, is set to take place this Saturday. Known as the ‘Mid-Summer Derby,’ the event is a critical fixture in North American thoroughbred racing and serves as an automatic qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Golden Tempo, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, enters as the favorite. A victory could potentially secure his status as the 2026 three-year-old male champion. Other notable competitors include Napoleon Solo, winner of the Preakness Stakes, and Renegade, a Kentucky Derby runner-up.

In addition to the Travers Stakes, the Saratoga card features several other high-stakes races that offer direct qualification to the Breeders' Cup via the Challenge program. These include the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1), the Forego Stakes (G1), and the Ballerina Handicap (G1).
