The highly competitive field of three-year-old thoroughbreds includes several major contenders. Renegade, the Jim Dandy winner and second choice on the morning line, is a key challenger. Notably, trainer Todd Pletcher has tapped veteran Tyler Gaffalione to ride Renegade, replacing Irad Ortiz, Jr., who is sidelined with a foot injury.

Other notable participants include Sea Strike, a rising contender trained by Chad Brown, Preakness Stakes winner Napoleon Solo, and Baby Vino, the recent Haskell Stakes winner trained by Lindsay Schultz. The Travers Stakes, often referred to as the ‘Mid-Summer Derby,’ serves as an automatic qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Classic. A victory for Golden Tempo could potentially secure his status as the 2026 three-year-old male champion.
