Sarawak aims for high-income status by 2030

During the 2026 Malaysia Day celebrations in Kuching, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Abeng Openg expressed confidence that Sarawak is on track to become a developed, high-income state by 2030. He attributed this potential to national stability and the close collaboration between the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government and the Federal Government.

Abang Johari noted that Sarawak aims to contribute to national strength through green energy, industry, technology, and regional development. He also welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to balanced national development that recognizes the potential of Sarawak and Sabah.

Separately, the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, urged citizens to pursue high standards of education and innovation to create new job opportunities. He emphasized that true prosperity is measured not only by economic output but also by the knowledge, integrity, and innovation of the people.
