Sarawak air quality improves following rainfall

Rainfall in parts of Sarawak has provided relief from haze conditions, with most areas recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings below 200 as of the morning of September 10, 2026. According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), the districts of Serian and Lundu have moved out of the hazardous category. Lundu saw a significant improvement, with its API dropping from 233 to 187.

Despite the improvement, air quality remains in the unhealthy category across much of the state. Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Samalaju, Tebedu, Lubok Antu, Kanowit, and Betong have all reported unhealthy readings. Meanwhile, Miri, ILP Miri, and Lawas have improved to the moderate category, while Bario maintains good air quality with an API of 13.
