Sarawak water level and haze mitigation efforts

Overview

To address low water levels in hydroelectric plants and mitigate haze, Sarawak initiated cloud seeding operations. The project, involving the National Disaster Management Agency, MetMalaysia, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force, targeted the Batang Ai hydroelectric plant and several other catchment areas. Success was contingent on specific atmospheric conditions and cloud formations.

Following rainfall, air quality in parts of Sarawak showed signs of improvement. The Natural Resources and Environment Board reported that several districts, including Serian and Lundu, moved out of the hazardous category, with Lundu’s Air Pollutant Index dropping from 233 to 187. While some areas reached moderate or good air quality levels, much of the state remained in the unhealthy category.
