Sarawak community leaders play key role in local governance and welfare
Community Leaders and Village Heads (KMKK) in Sarawak serve as a vital link between the state government and local residents, facilitating administration and welfare distribution.
Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah noted that KMKK members assist in managing customary matters, verifying official documents, and supporting public safety initiatives. He highlighted that the state government has been gradually increasing allowance rates for these leaders in recognition of their significant responsibilities, particularly in rural areas where they help implement government policies and manage grassroots issues.
Additionally, Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah emphasized the role of KMKK in ensuring vulnerable populations, such as those with serious health conditions like cancer or kidney disease, do not miss out on government aid. These leaders help identify individuals in need and communicate information regarding initiatives like the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution Scheme (SKAS), ensuring that welfare and community well-being are maintained through close cooperation with government agencies.
