Sarawak Premier Abang Johari pushes AI campus and talent development for future workforce

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state must ready its younger generation for rapid advances in artificial intelligence and automation, urging that future workers will operate alongside robots. He highlighted the need for talent development, free tertiary education in strategic fields, and aligning the state’s economy with the skills acquired by graduates to encourage their return.

The premier also announced plans to build an Artificial Intelligence Data Campus in Tanjung Embang, Kuching. The campus is intended to act as a catalyst for an AI Grid, attract investment and strengthen Sarawak’s AI data‑centre ecosystem, supporting the broader economic shift toward AI technologies.
