Sardinia health system reports steadier emergency waits and new tourist clinics after ending 'gettonisti' doctors

The regional health authority in Sardinia confirmed that emergency departments have maintained stable response times for high‑urgency cases and have shown marked improvements for lower‑severity cases since the June 30 ban on so‑called “medici gettonisti.” The improvement is most evident in the Sassari health district and the Cagliari university hospital. The change follows the hiring of forty new physicians in June and the introduction of a regional single‑professional register and a uniform tariff for additional health‑care services.

At the same time, the Asl of Sassari expanded its Tourist Medical Guard service, opening new clinics in Alghero, Platamona, Castelsardo and Stintino. These public facilities provide basic health assistance to non‑resident visitors, allowing doctors to prescribe medication, order tests, refer to specialists and issue sick‑leave certificates. Services are billed according to the regional tariff and operate on a schedule of weekday opening hours throughout July and early August.
