Sardinia health system to add almost 2,000 staff under new hiring plan

The Sardinia regional government approved a plan to recruit nearly 2,000 health professionals to address chronic staffing shortages. The agenda calls for 700 doctors, 1,200 nurses and 50 radiology technicians, with 1,500 permanent positions filled through public competitions and an additional 450 foreign‑trained staff hired on fixed‑term contracts for 2027‑2028. Recruitment will prioritize specialties and districts with the greatest need, and a public tender will be issued to support language and organisational training for the overseas workers.

Regional health minister Federico Riboldi noted that the regional health workforce has grown from 55,000 to 59,200 employees since 2019, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthen public health. He stressed that there is no hiring freeze and that the new hires will be targeted to patient and territorial requirements, ensuring that each professional is placed where needed most.
