Sardinia tourism hits 21.9 million visitors in 2025, beating Italy's average

Tourism on the Italian island of Sardinia continued its rapid expansion in 2025, recording 21.9 million visitor presences – a 32.5% rise in arrivals and a 39.1% increase in total nights compared with 2024. The growth far exceeded the national average, which posted gains of 15.1% in arrivals and 14.9% in presences. Foreign tourists formed the majority at 56%, averaging 4.24 nights per stay. The figures were presented by regional tourism assessor Franco Cuccureddu and Pierangelo Lucio Orofino of the Regional Tourism Observatory, citing the latest Istat data.

In the province of Oristano, tourist numbers reached 1,073,195, a 15.45% increase over the previous year and the smallest percentage gain among Sardinian provinces. Notably, 54.2% of these arrivals occurred outside the traditional summer season, highlighting a shift toward year‑round tourism. The province’s growth was supported by strong off‑season demand, while overall island arrivals approached 22 million with a similar average stay length.
