Sardinia tourism and cycling sector growth

Sardinia’s economy is experiencing a dual surge in tourism and cycling‑related activities. Over the past four years the island’s bicycle industry has more than tripled, expanding from 31 to 90 firms and employing over 250 people, while daily cyclist numbers have risen to around 30,000. The growth is supported by extensive cycling routes, EU green‑mobility funding and local efforts to improve bike infrastructure.

At the same time, overall tourism continues its rapid expansion. In 2025 the island recorded 21.9 million visitor presences, a 32.5 % increase from the previous year, with foreign tourists accounting for the majority. Off‑season travel now makes up over half of arrivals, indicating a shift toward year‑round tourism. Together, the booming bike sector and the broader rise in visitor numbers suggest Sardinia is diversifying its tourism base and leveraging sustainable mobility as a new engine for regional development.
