Sarnano hillclimb Trofeo Scarfiotti halted by severe storm

The 35th Trofeo Scarfiotti hillclimb between Sarnano and Sassotetto in the Macerata province of Italy was heavily disrupted by a violent thunderstorm on 29 July 2026. Strong rain, wind and hail caused debris, fallen branches and unsafe conditions along the nearly 10‑km course, leading organizers to cancel the second scheduled run. Race director Fabrizio Fondacci said the weather made the track impracticable despite the presence of provincial rescue resources and course inspectors.

The event, staged by ASD AC Macerata and AC Macerata, featured a parade of about 50 Gran Turismo cars, including Lotus Elise models and a unique Raffo Tipo 12‑Alfa Romeo built by former racer John Raffo. Luigi Ruffini drove a restored Alfa Romeo 1500 cc car from Officina MeccanicArt, which attracted particular attention. Among the competitors, Gabriel Sodi in a Mini Cooper S topped the under‑25 class, while Deborah Broccolini secured the women’s classification, finishing third in the turbo 2000 category. The New Generation Racing team also took part, with Filippo Lacanna placing second in his class and fifth overall in the CIVM ranking with a Peugeot 106.
