SAS cabin crew strike set for Saturday morning in Norway

Around 500 cabin crew members of Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) have been placed on strike from 04:00 CET on Saturday, 8 August, after a union ballot rejected a proposed new collective agreement. More than 90 % of the roughly 500 voting members of the union Fellesforbundet voted against the offer that had been negotiated earlier this summer by NHO Luftfart and SAS.

Negotiations leader Dag‑Einar Sivertsen said the vote shows the union’s internal democracy at work and that the union remains open to talks with the airline. The union argues that cabin crew, especially those with low seniority, are lagging behind wage growth despite the responsibilities of their jobs. The strike could be averted if a new agreement is reached before the deadline.
