Saskatchewan farmers remain optimistic despite heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall in southeast Saskatchewan is not expected to significantly hinder the upcoming harvest. Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for areas including Carlyle, Estevan, and Moosomin, with forecasts predicting 50-70 millimetres of rain through Friday night.

Local farmers report that while the rain has fluctuated between heavy downpours and light drizzle, there is currently no standing water in the fields. Some producers noted that the moisture is beneficial following a period of high temperatures in July that caused ground cracking.

According to the latest crop report, approximately two per cent of the harvest has been completed, which is slightly behind the five-year average of five per cent. While cereal crops are reported to be in good condition, some canola crops remain patchy due to previous flooding from heavy rains in June.
