Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe pushes for CUSMA renewal amid US tariff threats

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe warned that newly announced United States tariffs could hit the province’s agriculture, forestry and manufacturing sectors and called for an accelerated renegotiation of the Canada‑U.S‑Mexico trade agreement (CUSMA). He urged the federal government to adopt a more aggressive approach, including intensive meetings in Washington, to secure a renewed deal within the 30‑day window before the tariffs take effect. Moe expressed uncertainty about reaching an agreement and highlighted concerns that a 50 % tariff on Canadian goods would severely damage farmers and producers. He is scheduled to meet with other provincial premiers and Prime Minister Mark Carney to keep trade top of the agenda.
