SASSA announces 2026/2027 payment dates amid mass grant suspensions

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official social grant payment schedule for the 2026/2027 financial year. To improve efficiency and reduce congestion at payment points, SASSA will continue using a staggered payment approach. Typically, the Older Person’s Grant is paid first, followed by the Disability Grant and then Children’s Grants.

Simultaneously, Social Development Minister Dina Pule disclosed in Parliament that over 56,000 beneficiaries had their grants suspended during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year. Out of 105,600 beneficiaries reviewed, 56,807 were suspended due to “non-compliance with review requirements.”

While 5,231 beneficiaries were subsequently reinstated after meeting eligibility requirements, the suspensions have caused significant hardship for many households. The agency continues to conduct these reviews to ensure compliance with assistance regulations.
