SASSA Gold Card deadline passes, risking grant access

The deadline for SASSA Gold Cards passed on Monday, August 31, 2026, marking the final day before the old cards are deactivated. Postbank has urged beneficiaries to transition to the new Postbank Black Card to ensure continued access to funds.

Approximately 90% of SASSA Child Grant recipients are still holding the old Gold Cards. Postbank officials noted that this group, largely comprised of young mothers, faces higher migration challenges due to frequent relocation between provinces. This mobility makes consistent communication and access to card-swap collection points difficult compared to Old Age Grant beneficiaries.

As the new payment cycle begins on Wednesday, September 2, those who have not migrated face potential disruptions. Around 15,000 grants remain unmigrated, with the highest numbers of outstanding cards reported in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng provinces.
