SASSA Gold Card migration deadline approaches
Social grant beneficiaries in South Africa are being urged to migrate from SASSA Gold Cards to the new Postbank Black Card before the August 31 deadline. While the first article notes a deadline of August 31, 2026, the second article indicates the deadline is imminent, with less than five days remaining.
Postbank reports that over 1.8 million beneficiaries have already completed the migration, leaving approximately 80,000 people who still need to switch. The replacement process is free of charge, requiring only a valid South African identity document or temporary ID. Beneficiaries can complete the switch at Postbank sites or selected retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Boxer, Pick n Pay, and Spar.
Those who receive grants directly into commercial bank accounts, such as Capitec, FNB, Absa, Nedbank, or Standard Bank, are not required to switch. For those using the Gold Card, any remaining balance will automatically transfer to the new Black Card. Postbank has stated that while beneficiaries who miss the deadline will still receive their grants, they must complete the migration before they can access their funds.
