Sassari police launch safety campaign following scooter violations

Local police in Sassari, Italy, have launched an awareness campaign regarding the correct use of electric scooters and bicycles following 150 recorded violations in the first seven months of the year.

Common infractions include riding two people on a single scooter, failure to wear a helmet, and lack of required identification markings. Authorities emphasize that electric scooters are vehicles subject to the highway code, requiring mandatory helmets, identification, and civil liability insurance. Regulations also prohibit riding on sidewalks, carrying passengers, and using mobile phones while operating these devices.

Cyclists are similarly urged to use designated bike lanes, signal direction changes, and respect traffic lights and signage. For those over twelve years old, bicycles must be walked rather than ridden when on sidewalks.
