Sassnitz Hosts Inclusive SailGP Regatta with Able and Disabled Sailors
From 18 to 20 August 2026 the town of Sassnitz on Germany’s Baltic coast will stage an inclusive SailGP regatta alongside the ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix. The event, the second day of the Heinz‑Kettler‑Deutschland‑Cup, features 16 crews from four nations sailing on the same water, with both able‑bodied and disabled athletes competing together.
Organisers include five local sailing clubs and the Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank, under the patronage of Minister Stefanie Drese. Notable participants are Paralympic gold‑medallist Siggi Mainka, European‑level sailors Hans Nee, Calle Sibbert, Dirk Thalheim and Stephanie Brix, and ten‑year‑old visually‑impaired sailor Sophia, who trains with the Heinz‑Kettler Inclusive Youth Sailing Team. Wheelchair‑accessible boat trips for guests run from 18 to 23 August.
