SAT intensifies fiscal oversight in Mexico through AI and data analytics
The Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT) is intensifying its oversight through the SAT Master Plan 2026, which incorporates artificial intelligence, data analytics, and predictive models to detect fiscal inconsistencies. In response, companies are increasingly adopting digital tools to organize documentary evidence and perform audit simulations to prepare for potential reviews and tax refund requests.
In Veracruz, the Taxpayer Defense Procuracy (PRODECON) reports that while the number of taxpayers seeking advice regarding tax declarations has increased, the SAT has shown improved response times for tax refund requests. This improvement has led to a decrease in formal complaints regarding delays. However, PRODECON continues to assist taxpayers in legal defense proceedings when refund requests are rejected or only partially authorized, particularly concerning personal deductions such as medical and dental expenses.
