European Parliament displays satirical gilded Trump statue

A 2.6-meter tall satirical sculpture titled “The Orange Plague” has been installed in the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France. Created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, the copper statue is covered in 23-karat gold leaf and depicts Donald Trump naked, seated on the shoulders of a smaller, struggling man.

The artwork, also referred to as the “King of Injustice,” features Trump holding a scale of justice in one hand and a golf club in the other, with a miniature globe serving as the golf ball. The artist stated the piece is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and serves as a critique of Trump’s impact on climate change policies and the rules-based international order.

The exhibition was sponsored by Danish MEP Per Clausen and is scheduled to remain on display until Thursday, October 8. While the display was approved by parliamentary authorities, it does not represent an official position of the European Union. The installation has drawn mixed reactions, including sharp criticism from some lawmakers regarding its appropriateness on parliamentary grounds.
