Satish Salian seeks police security amid Disha Salian CBI probe

The investigation into the death of Disha Salian has escalated following a Bombay High Court directive for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and the registration of a fresh FIR. Satish Salian, the deceased's father, has requested police protection, citing concerns over potential intimidation.

Legal counsel for the family, Nilesh Ojha, has alleged that members associated with the Shiv Sena (UBT) party have threatened the legal team. The request for security has been formally submitted to high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, and the Chief Justice of India. Ojha specifically questioned the disparity in protection, noting that while Aaditya Thackeray holds ‘Y-plus’ security, the witnesses and family members involved in bringing the matter to light remain unprotected.

Aaditya Thackeray has been named in the FIR, though the Bombay High Court noted that being named does not establish guilt and that sufficient material must emerge during the investigation. Additionally, Salian’s legal team has served a ₹500-crore defamation notice on Thackeray, seeking damages and an apology. Thackeray’s legal representatives have rejected the notice, arguing that his social media posts did not identify Satish Salian and therefore do not constitute defamation.
