Sato Company to Release 4K Remastered Akira in Brazil on Aug 27
Brazilian distributor Sato Company announced that the classic anime film Akira will return to cinemas in a 4K remastered edition on 27 August 2026, marking the 35th anniversary of its original Brazilian release. The film will be shown in both subtitled and dubbed Portuguese versions.
The company released a trailer on 20 July and a teaser earlier, highlighting updated visuals of Neo‑Tokyo and key scenes from the story. Founder Nelson Sato, who helped bring the movie to Brazil in 1991, recalled the challenges of its initial distribution. The 4K version, originally slated for a 2020 Japanese release that was delayed, will now debut in Brazilian theatres, with a special commemorative screening planned for 9 August.
The event is part of a broader effort to re‑introduce landmark Japanese animation to new audiences in Brazil.
