Saturday Mothers demand accountability at 1,118th weekly protest

The Saturday Mothers, a group seeking information on relatives disappeared in custody since 1995, held their 1,118th weekly protest at Galatasaray Square. Ahead of August 30, the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the group called on the government to reveal the fate of the missing and hold those responsible accountable.

In a statement read by Sebla Arcan, the group criticized the state for what they described as a pattern of denial, ineffective investigations, and the protection of perpetrators. They emphasized that the state's duty is to uncover crimes rather than conceal them, and argued that true peace and democracy cannot be established without confronting past human rights violations and ending the culture of impunity.
