Saturday Mothers demand justice for Fethi Ildır disappearance

The Saturday Mothers gathered at Galatasaray Square for their 1,119th vigil to demand justice for Fethi Ildır, an 18-year-old who was forcibly disappeared in 1993 in the Şırnak province of Turkey.

According to witnesses and family accounts, Ildır was detained by individuals allegedly linked to the Hizbullah organization while traveling from İdil to Cizre. Although official records initially denied his detention, his body was discovered on September 19, 1993, near the Cizre-İdil highway, showing signs of severe torture.

Eren Keskin, a member of the Human Rights Association (İHD) Executive Board, addressed the group, stating that the statute of limitations should not apply to crimes against humanity. She emphasized that time does not erase the crime and criticized the lack of an effective investigation over the decades. The case has moved between multiple prosecutor offices, including İdil, Cizre, and Diyarbakır, as the family continues to seek the identification and prosecution of those responsible.
