Saturday Mothers demand justice for Süleyman Cihan

During their 1115th weekly gathering at Galatasaray Square, the Saturday Mothers demanded justice for Süleyman Cihan, a teacher who was detained in 1981 and subsequently died following alleged torture. Although authorities previously claimed he committed suicide or died in a conflict, family members and witnesses maintained he was killed under custody. The case was previously closed due to the statute of limitations.

The group also addressed the 'framework law' recently accepted by the Justice Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). They argued that any peace or democratization process must extend beyond criminal law regulations regarding those laying down arms. They emphasized that lasting peace requires addressing past human rights violations through mechanisms of truth, justice, and reparation, calling for the opening of state archives and the establishment of truth commissions.
