Satya Niketan illegal construction case: Lawyer questions MCD audit

During a court hearing regarding illegal construction and encroachments in Delhi's Satya Niketan area, the court has granted 10 days for respondents to file their replies.

Lawyer Rishabh Singh, representing the petitioner, raised significant concerns regarding the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) audit process. Singh questioned how building certifications are being issued without proper notices and highlighted discrepancies in the MCD's affidavit. He noted that while the MCD claimed to have audited various Paying Guest (PG) accommodations, it also mentioned sending certain building owners to experts at Delhi Technological University (DTU) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for audits, yet failed to provide accompanying notices.

Singh further alleged that although the MCD has collected conversion fees from PG owners, it has not verified whether these owners are adhering to construction and safety regulations. He also pointed out that the MCD's submission included images of building collapses in the Mukherjee Nagar area but failed to address the living conditions of students in the crowded Satya Niketan locality. The legal team intends to file a response suggesting improvements and calling for greater accountability among officials involved in construction audits.
