Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute students boycott classes
Students at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata have extended a class boycott to 11 days following a series of security concerns and violent confrontations on campus.
The unrest began on September 27 when students clashed with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP) during a campus program. Students alleged they were assaulted by outsiders, while the ABGP claimed students disrupted their event. Tensions escalated on October 4 when members of the Bangiya Hindu Jagaran Manch allegedly attempted to breach the institute's gates, throwing stones and bottles toward the campus.
Student union spokesperson Sudip Chakraborty stated that the boycott will continue until students are assured of campus security following these alleged attacks by right-wing forces. A general body meeting is expected in the coming days to determine future actions. Meanwhile, institute officials noted that some students have vacated hostels ahead of Durga Puja celebrations.
