Saudi Arabia Accelerates Post-Oil Economic Diversification

Saudi Arabia, long identified with oil production and social conservatism, is pursuing a broad economic transformation under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030. The kingdom aims to reduce reliance on oil revenues by developing tourism, industry, technology, entertainment, mining, and renewable energy sectors.

Oil windfall profits are being channeled through the Public Investment Fund to finance large non‑oil projects, while initiatives such as the “Saudi Made” program, overseen by the Saudi Export Development Authority, provide a systematic roadmap for building new industries. The strategy seeks to use oil earnings to fund diversification rather than to reinforce dependence on fossil‑fuel income.

The shift is presented as a strategic necessity amid global energy transition pressures and market volatility, positioning Saudi Arabia to sustain growth even if oil loses its dominant role in the world economy.
