Saudi Arabia and Oman urge maritime security and freedom of navigation

During high-level diplomatic meetings in Riyadh and Muscat, officials from Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Japan emphasized the critical importance of maritime security and the freedom of navigation in international waters.

In Riyadh, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan met with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi for the 3rd Strategic Dialogue. Bin Farhan stressed that maintaining open and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb strait is a priority. He noted that Saudi Arabia is focused on comprehensive diplomatic solutions to address regional instability and prevent new conflicts.

In Muscat, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamed al-Busaidi also met with Motegi, highlighting the need for political solutions to reduce regional tensions. Both ministers underscored that sustainable security in the Strait of Hormuz is essential for lasting peace. The discussions also touched upon expanding economic cooperation, particularly in energy, logistics, and low-carbon technologies, as well as strengthening supply chain security.
