Saudi Arabia executes five citizens in Eastern Province over terrorism charges

The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced the execution of five Saudi citizens in the Eastern Province. The individuals, identified as Mohammed bin Munir bin Mohammed Al-Zahir, Ali bin Abdrab Al-Hussein Al-Sheikh, Hassan bin Zaki bin Mohammed Al-Faraj, Reda bin Mohammed bin Ali Al Abu Abdullah, and Ali bin Hassan bin Ahmed Al Rubh, were convicted of terrorism-related offenses.

According to official statements, the charges included joining a foreign terrorist organization, targeting security personnel and vehicles with weapons and explosives, possessing live ammunition, and providing financial and logistical support for terrorist operations within the Kingdom. The sentences were finalized following appeals and a royal order.

Human rights activists and international observers have noted that these executions occur amid ongoing criticism regarding the use of the death penalty and the treatment of activists. Some reports indicate that the number of executions in Saudi Arabia has reached 170 since the beginning of the current year. Additionally, activists have raised concerns regarding the imminent execution of Yousef al-Manasif, a Shia resident of Qatif, whose charges relate to participation in protests during his youth.
