Saudi Arabia intercepts Houthi ballistic missile targeting Riyadh
A Saudi-led military coalition announced on Monday that it intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen targeting Riyadh. The interception follows claims by the Houthis that they conducted multiple military operations involving dozens of ballistic missiles aimed at Riyadh International Airport, as well as air and naval bases in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
These attacks follow a recent surge in violence, including a strike earlier this month that killed 13 people and injured over 300 at the Riyadh airport. In response to the ongoing security threats, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and agreed to maintain the Patriot air defense system in Yanbu, a critical oil export hub on the Red Sea coast.
In addition to intercepting the missile over Riyadh, coalition forces reported destroying two missile launch sites in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
