Yemen President launches Saudi-funded humanitarian projects

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi has inaugurated nine new humanitarian and relief projects funded by Saudi Arabia. During a visit to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in Saudi Arabia, Alimi launched initiatives targeting food security, water supply, shelter, and medical supplies for displaced persons and residents in several Yemeni governorates, including Taiz, Aden, Lahj, and Hajjah.

The projects include the provision of food baskets, emergency shelter kits, and clean drinking water. Additionally, Alimi inaugurated 100 Saudi voluntary programs covering specialized medical services such as heart surgeries, blindness prevention, and cochlear implants. In Hajjah, a residential complex consisting of 232 solar-powered homes for displaced persons will be established.

Alimi highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Taiz, where approximately 1.5 million people face a blockade, and noted that over 250,000 people have recently been displaced from Houthi-controlled areas. He called on the international community and the United Nations to facilitate humanitarian corridors to ensure aid reaches besieged populations.

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of KSrelief, stated that Yemen remains a top priority for the center, noting that Saudi humanitarian aid to Yemen has exceeded $29 billion over the past decade.
