Saudi Arabia pauses airstrikes and weighs options for Yemen engagement

Saudi Arabia has halted its air campaign against Yemen’s Houthi movement and opened a dialogue channel through Oman, suggesting a possible shift toward de‑escalation. The pause follows recent Houthi missile launches toward southern Saudi Arabia, a maritime blockade, and attacks on Saudi oil tankers, which have heightened pressure on Saudi energy exports.

Analysts note that while Saudi forces have repositioned in eastern Yemen and discussed a potential operation in the Al‑Bayda governorate, there is no conclusive evidence of a large‑scale ground invasion. Saudi officials have also assembled a 14‑nation maritime defense coalition, including Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan, Bahrain, Yemen and Turkey, to protect shipping through the Red Sea and Bab el‑Mandeb. The new diplomatic overture via Oman, alongside United Nations involvement, may influence broader Middle‑East negotiations, including U.S.–Iran talks.
