Saudi Arabia restarts East-West oil pipeline
Saudi Arabia has restarted operations on its critical East-West Pipeline, which had been offline since September 13 following drone attacks. The resumption of service could allow crude oil exports from the Red Sea port of Yanbu to continue as early as Tuesday.
The pipeline, also known as Petroline, is a vital strategic asset that enables the transport of oil from eastern parts of the country to the Red Sea coast, allowing Saudi Arabia to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Before the disruption, the pipeline moved approximately four million barrels per day, representing about 4 percent of the global oil supply.
While the pipeline is back in operation, it is currently running at a reduced capacity. Saudi Aramco is working to restore the flow to its previous levels of roughly four million barrels per day. Some sources suggest that full normalization of operations may take several weeks.
The news of the restart has already impacted global energy markets, contributing to a drop in Brent crude prices by more than $2 per barrel, reaching levels not seen since early September.
