Saudi Cabinet activates maritime defense alliance and condemns Iranian attacks

The Saudi Arabian Cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Jeddah, has officially welcomed the institutional and operational activation of the multinational maritime defense alliance launched by the Kingdom. This move aims to enhance collective maritime security, protect freedom of navigation in vital waterways and straits, and ensure the continuity of global trade and supply chains.

During the session, the Cabinet issued a categorical rejection of Iranian attacks on commercial ships and tankers. The Council described these actions as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to maritime safety, noting they constitute a grave violation of international laws and UN Security Council resolutions regarding the freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

In terms of bilateral relations, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the Saudi-Sudan Coordination Council to foster institutional cooperation and integrated development between the two nations. Additionally, the Council highlighted Saudi Arabia’s successful presidency of the 16th session of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, emphasizing initiatives for water and food security and climate adaptation.
